Swim Smooth coaching in east anglia
Full video analysis
Full, 1-to-1 Swim Smooth video analysis and stroke correction in a dedicated 25m lane. I will film your freestyle from 2 angles above and 2 angles below water and we’ll analyse the footage right there, seated on poolside – providing unique and personalised insight and guidance on how to improve your freestyle. Clips of elite swimmers and the Swim Smooth drill library will focus our discussion, which will all be recorded on DVD for you to take home. You’ll then jump straight back into the water to practise the drills most relevant to you – ours is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. You will also get a month’s free access to Swim Smooth’s superb online coaching system, the Guru, ‘pro’ version.

Seamus was born on the Suffolk coast in Felixstowe. He was first in his class to learn to swim and grew up swimming in the North Sea. After many years working in landlocked countries, he returned to Felixstowe in 2008 to resume his love of sea swimming in his hometown. Wishing to share his passion for swimming, in 2012 he set up Felixstowe Swimscapes - a friendly sea-swimming group which swims year-round, with a growing membership of over 400. Seamus continues to develop his own swimming - e.g. English Channel relay completed in 2016 - and his teaching and coaching, becoming a certified Swim Smooth coach the same year. He absolutely loves his job, working with swimmers of all ages, speeds and backgrounds and sharing his lifelong enthusiasm for swimming, be it pool or open water. Recent reviews of my video analysis and squad services
The squad is go! Two great Saturday morning sessions so far: January 7th (40 swimmers:) and 14th (39:))). First week, a classic Goldilocks main set, then yesterday, the Spike set (30-40 x 50m, with gradually increasing sprints and rests) with alignment as the technique focus (300m side-kicking with fins). The atmosphere has been super-positive and[…]
Just swam a no-frills 10x400m set, with ‘aid’ of my Finis Tempo Trainer for pacing, based on my CSS pace i.e. it was Swim Smooth’s classic ‘Red Mist‘ set. Great feeling of accomplishment, coming down from 1:40/100m for 400s 1-4, then 1:39/100 for 5-7, 1:38/100 for no.s 8&9 and finishing on 1:37/100m. But it was[…]
No one would argue that December isn’t winter in the northern hemisphere – and it felt like it on 3rd December, grey, with sharp east wind, sea lumpy and down to 7.4C. The pre-swim mood’s a bit different in such conditions – we know there’s some discomfort ahead, steeling ourselves for the challenge. Some joke,[…]
At last! the long-awaited Swim Smooth Suffolk squad will start rocking Saturday mornings from 7th January 2017 at Felixstowe Leisure Centre, 07:45-08:55 i.e. 70 minutes quality swim training. We’ll work together, work hard, enjoy and achieve results. Sessions will include at least two of Swim Smooth’s ‘3 keys’ – freestyle technique, swimming fitness and open water skills.[…]
Saturday 29 October, perfect conditions. Nothing-but-blue sky, still, a hint of actual warmth in the air and cakes waiting on the bench. Not billed as such but it felt like the – really – last hurrah of the summer: an unexpected opportunity to revel in our splendid sea-swimming environment and fraternity. The kit order had[…]
Yesterday 30 Suffolk swimmers gathered on a still, grey, autumnal morning to swim one of the most exciting and adventurous 330 metres of our lives. As part of shooting for a film called Life on the Deben, two groups of local OW swimmers joined forces to cross the River Deben, from Felixstowe Ferry to Bawdsey[…]
This month – after just 4.5 years in the North Sea – Felixstowe Swimscapes passed 400 Facebook members, nearly 10% of whom you can see in this photo, about to sea swim from one end of the town to the other. This is what we call – not very literally – our end-of-season River-to-River swim.[…]
This screenshot is from today’s successful video analysis at Bishops Stortford – contrasting the client’s overreach, dropping the elbow and causing a slight stall in the stroke, with the positive spearing and catch of the water by elite OW swimmer Rhys Mainstone – addressed with scull #1 and Finis Agility paddles. The VA took place[…]
August is over, and that’s a bit sad, because it was a good one. It was sunny, there was a lot of swimming going on – it was not samey…at all. On the 12th, along with my colleagues in Montreal, Kuala Lumpur and Gothenburg, I was announced as a certified Swim Smooth coach (picture, on[…]
There was a happy gathering at Swimscapes bay today. Some longer swims (5k) for Dave and Jacqui training for Coniston end to end on Sept 3rd; some new swimmers – Garry who was a non-swimmer 6 months ago, Peter who’s done a Channel relay. Talking of which, we are definite for tomorrow with pilot Eric[…]
